Special Macro solution - PQS  behind the lens shutter adapter for Hy6 and 6000 series cameras

For macro work the Rolleiflex cameras really have no parallel because of the different array of solutions available. One such piece is the M39/40 shutter adapter that was made to adapt m39 and m40 lenses to the 6000 and Hy6 cameras.  That adapter was produced to allow use of specialty lenses like the Schneider M-componon 28mm, 50mm and 80mm or the Rodenstock Imagon lenses which had no internal shutter for use with the system.  Unfortunately the M39 shutter adapter is no longer produced and though copies can be had on the 2nd hand used market they are expensive and difficult to find. Normally I keep two in my own kit.  I've suggested to the factory to make another run of these because they are so useful, but so far they haven't done it. Since they didn't, I decided to come up with my own way!

I use the PQS 80mm lens as a starting point and fit a custom made m39 adapter to the shutter. This allows you to fit any optic that has an M39 (LTM) thread such as enlarging lenses, or any optic that can be adapted to the M39 mount.  Additionally I've come up with a 2nd plate that can be fitted which will take RMS microscope lenses as well.  Note that some enlarging lenses can be reverse fit with a 40.5 filter ring to 39mm LTM adapter, and some with long rear elements will need a 39mm extension ring.  With a 105mm enlarging lens reverse fit, the focus distance is about 12 inches with magnification of approximately 1:1 and with a 75mm enlarging lens fitted, the focus distance is about 4 inches and with approximately 3 times magnification.  With specialty lenses like the Leica Photar or Zeiss luminar that fit the RMS thread, 20x magnification can be easily achieved and one can still focus with the viewfinder quite easily.

Shown in the photos are how the two adapter pieces look outside the lens, but you'll never need to remove the M39 adapter. You can change the bezel out for the RMS plate without any special tools.

Summary:

  • Takes any m39 LTM mount optic - or any optic that can be adapted to m39
  • PQS not PQ so faster Max shutter speed than the original shutter adapter
  • Can be used with Hy6 or 6000 series cameras
  • Works with X-act2 also with the lens adapter (see last picture)
  • 35mm additional extension
  • 5mm of helical travel (original shutter adapter has 11mm)
  • RMS microscope adapter plate included
  • Less than half the price of a used M39/M40 factory shutter adapter.
  • Note: Some vignetting possible with certain lens configurations and the largest digital sensors or film - adjusting the focus travel all the way out to the closest distance or adding a 9mm extension will help. This is one advantage of the original M39/40 shutter adapter since it has a larger opening.

Note: Lenses and X-Act2 lens adapter shown in the last three photos are for illustrative purposes and not included.
